Colorado officers gearing up for holiday weekend DUI crackdown

Law enforcement agencies across Colorado are gearing up to crack down on drunken drivers over the Labor Day weekend.

Colorado officers have made 983 DUI arrests since Aug. 21 in an ongoing national enforcement effort that ends Tuesday.

In Colorado Springs, there will be two roving checkpoints over two nights this weekend. The first roving checkpoint will be Friday night, into Saturday morning. The money for this stepped up enforcement is coming from a grant from CDOT.

Teller County is also stepping up DUI enforcement. The Teller County Sheriff's Office says they will have extra deputies on the roads. They will also have several roving DUI checkpoints. They'll be focusing their efforts on keeping County roads and Highways safe.

There will also be a dozen sobriety checkpoints and increased patrols across the state this weekend. Police from Boulder, Longmont and Lafayette are joining the Boulder County sheriff's department in stepping up enforcement in the county. The annual showdown between the University of Colorado and Colorado State University football teams is in Boulder Sunday.

There will also be a sobriety checkpoint at Rocky Mountain National Park.
