A 51-year-old man is out of the hospital after being attacked by a bear in his home in Bailey in the mountains west of Denver.

State wildlife officials say the man, whose name wasn't released, was bitten by the bear early Thursday when he found the animal in the basement of his house.

Sheriff's deputies and a state wildlife officer tracked the 320-pound male bear, and shot and killed it.

State wildlife officers say the family heard sounds in the kitchen shortly after midnight. The man was bitten as the bear tried to get past him.

State wildlife officers say bird feed put out by homeowners, accessible trash and open windows and doors can attract bears looking for something to eat.
