The Colorado House has given initial approval to a bill aimed at erasing Republican limits on the ability of judges to draw congressional district maps.
Republicans said it would be a mistake for Democrats to strip out limits placed on the courts after a Denver District Court judge drew congressional district lines nearly a decade ago when lawmakers failed to come up with a plan.
Republicans and Democrats are scrambling to set up guidelines before lawmakers begin drawing new lines next year based on the 2010 census.
