A Colorado House committee has approved a bill that would set up programs to allow homeowners to finance renewable energy projects.

Rep. Joe Miklosi, D-Denver, says his bill would set up special districts for homeowners who want to install solar, wind, geothermal renewable energy systems or make energy efficiency improvements to their homes.

For those who join the program, the average annual assessment on a residence would be approximately $1,500. Miklosi says energy savings will help make up the cost.

The bill now goes to the full House for a vote.
