DENVER (AP) - Colorado appears likely to keep its unenforced adultery law on the books.

A legislative committee in the Colorado House voted Friday to reject a bill repealing that crime. The bill would have eliminated crimes for which marital status is an element, such as adultery.

The bill also would have tossed the crime of providing a place for unmarried people to have sex. That crime was aimed at frontier-era flophouses and is seldom enforced today. But some
Republicans feared its repeal could have endangered modern-day prostitution cases.
