The unemployment rate for Colorado has risen to 8.2 percent, up from 7.9 percent.
The Colorado Department of Labor and Employment released the August statistics on Tuesday. Colorado's rate had held steady for months.
Labor and department director Donald Mares says the August jump shows the job market hasn't stabilized.
The department says the number of working Coloradans, adjusted for seasonal differences, fell by about 2,100 in August to about 2.44 million. It was almost 2.48 million in August 2009.
About 216,500 Coloradans were unsuccessfully looking for work, up from 213,300 a year earlier. The national unemployment rate was 9.6 percent in August.
Pueblo County's unemployment rate dropped from 9.9 percent in July to 9.7 in August. El Paso County dropped from 8.9 percent to 8.7 percent in August.
