Colorado ID theft up

Identity theft is the fastest growing crime in the nation. According to the Federal Trade Commission, Colorado is number one in the country for fraud, and 11th for ID theft complaints.

A new problem now, is stealing social security numbers from children,

The BBB says the scary part is that most victims don't even know it's happening.

''I think a lot of people don't realize that their identity has been stolen. And that's the problem. Sometimes these thieves wait three to five years to start using social security numbers," said Katie Carrol of the BBB.

There is a "Let-er-Rip" Day this Friday, May 4. From 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. In the Freedom Financial Expo Center parking lot.

You can shred up to 5 boxes of your personal documents for free.
