Colorado high school graduation rates inch up

The Colorado Department of Education says 74.6 percent of the class of 2009 graduated from high school, an increase of 0.7 percentage points from 2008.

There is still a gap in graduation rates for white students and minorities. The graduation rate last school year was 61.3 percent for minority students and 79.2 percent for white students, a gap of 17.9 percentage points.

In the 2007-2008 school year, the gap was 19.1 percentage points.

Graduation rates rose for Asian, Hispanic and black students last year but fell for Native Americans. Students who earn a GED are not considered graduates in the statistics.
