Colorado Guard opening new center in Fort Lupton

FORT LUPTON, Colo. (AP) - The Colorado Army National Guard is opening a new readiness center in the town of Fort Lupton.

The 35,000-square-foot building was having its formal opening on Saturday.

The $11 million structure includes an assembly hall, classrooms,library, learning center, kitchen, recruiting office and physical fitness area. It sits on a 25-acre site.

It's one of five Colorado Guard centers that will house elements of the 1st Battalion, 157th Infantry. Most of the Guard members who will use the Fort Lupton center live within a 50-mile radius.

The building can also be used for social events and as a disaster relief command center during emergencies.
