Unionized grocery workers in Colorado will start voting Saturday on new contract offers and whether to authorize a strike against the Safeway, King Soopers and City Market chains.

United Food and Commercial Workers Local 7 says voting will take place over next two weeks.

The union represents about 17,000 workers at Safeway, Albertsons, and the King Soopers and City Market chains of The Kroger Co.

Workers for Albertsons are still waiting for more negotiations.

The contracts expired May 9. Labor talks have dragged on with disagreements centering on wages, health and pension benefits and a system that offers less compensation to newer employees.
