Colorado Education Commissioner Dwight Jones has been chosen as the new superintendent of the school district that includes Las Vegas.

KTNV-TV in Las Vegas reports that the Clark County School District voted 6-1 Wednesday to select Jones to head the district that is the nation's fifth-largest. Jones has to accept the offer before he's officially announced as the new superintendent.

Dallas Independent School District Superintendent Michael Hinojosa was the other finalist for the job.

Jones has been Colorado's education commissioner since 2007. He has been a teacher, principal, assistant superintendent and superintendent in districts around the country.
