Colorado e. Coli linked to recalled beef

At least one case of e. Coli in Colorado has been linked to beef that is being recalled. Cases in five other states have also been reported.

The recall was anounced by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which reports that the steaks and other beef products were districuted to restaurants nationwide. The names of the restaurants involved, and whether all of the meat has been accounted for, is unknown at this time.

The products involved in the recall include:

* 4-ounce "NATIONAL STEAK AND POULTRY BONELESS BEEF SIRLOIN STEAK," with an identifying case code of "SC68408."
* 6-ounce "NATIONAL STEAK AND POULTRY BONELESS BEEF SIRLOIN STEAK," with an identifying case code of "SP680608."
* 8-ounce "NATIONAL STEAK AND POULTRY BONELESS BEEF SIRLOIN STEAK," with an identifying case code of "SC68808"
* 9-ounce "NATIONAL STEAK AND POULTRY BONELESS BEEF SIRLOIN STEAK," with an identifying case code of "SC68908."
* "NATIONAL STEAK AND POULTRY BONELESS BEEF TIPS," with an identifying case code of "69108."

E. Coli is a bacterium that can kill you. Symptoms include bloody diarrhea, dehydration, and kidney failure. The very young, seniors and people with weak immune systems are the most susceptible.

The meat was distributed by National Steak and Poultry of Owasso, Oklahoma. The other states with confirmed cases of e. Coli are Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, South Dakota and Washington.
