Governor Hickenlooper's office confirms the death of Department of Corrections Director Tom Clements.
He was shot at his home last night.
It happened at a home on Higby and Colonial Park.
That's in the black forest area.
Officials say the call came down before nine p-m last night.
According to officials, Clements answered his door--and was shot in the chest.
El paso county sheriff deputies are investigating, however information is limited at this time.
"We don't have a suspect in this case identified. We're working hard to try to learn, what lead up to this event, and what were those actions that were occuring right at the time of the shooting so to speak, to try to help establish who a suspect might be."
Investigators believe a family member made the call about the shooting, but they're still trying to confirm that.
A letter sent out to all DOC employees asked for prayers for Clements' wife, Lisa, their two daughters, and their family.
We'll continue to follow this, and bring you the latest updates.
