Colorado company selected as new concessionaire at Glacier National Park

WEST GLACIER, Mont. (AP) - The National Park Service has chosen a new concessionaire for Glacier National Park.

Colorado-based Xanterra Parks & Resorts Inc., which has concessionaire contracts at eight national parks, including Yellowstone, has been chosen to run visitor services in Glacier for the next 16 years.

Glacier Park Inc. has held the park contract to run five hotels, 10 food and beverage locations and eight retail locations as well as tours and other transportation since 1981.

Park officials say Xanterra is scheduled to take over in January.

The new contract includes a franchise fee of 1 percent that will be returned to the park service, along with setting aside 2.35 percent for repair and maintenance and 2.5 percent for rehabilitating the park's iconic red buses. Annual gross receipts are expected to be $18.5 million.
