South Carolina officials say a Colorado company will build a $68 million plant to make electric buses. The plant could have as many as 1,300 workers.

State Sen. David Thomas said Wednesday he hopes the Proterra LLC plant will lead to suppliers and related industries coming to South Carolina.

U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham says the Golden, Colo., company is expected to open its plant next year and will build hybrid- and battery-powered buses for mass transit.

An official announcement on the plant is expected to be made Thursday.
