A Mexican national described as a serial bank robber responsible for heists in Colorado, Texas and Arizona has been arrested.

The U.S. Marshal's Office in Tucson said Raul Gallegos, 40, was arrested by Sonora state police in Guaymas, Mexico, Tuesday.

Gallegos was handed over to U.S. authorities at the Nogales port of entry. He was booked into Pima County Jail on $500,000 bond.

Gallegos is suspected of committing five bank robberies in Pima County, Arizona dating back to December 2009. His alleged string of robberies continued into 2010, when he is again suspected of robbing four more banks between January and February 2010.

Gallegos is also believed to be responsible for multiple bank robberies in Texas and Colorado.
