DENVER (AP) - Colorado authorities are monitoring social media so they can deal with events that could get out of control.

Department of Public Safety spokesman Lance Clem says analysts can notify law enforcement agencies about events that are planned and discussed on the Internet, often within minutes of the comments being posted.

According to the Denver Post, the state has been monitoring Twitter and Facebook to give law enforcement a chance to prepare for the worst.
