A Colorado artist has won a national portraiture competition and will have his work shown at the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery.
The museum announced Thursday that 37-year-old Dave Woody of Fort Collins, Colo., will win the $25,000 prize and a separate commission. His photograph titled "Laura," portraying a fellow graduate student, was among 49 finalists.
The Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition drew 3,300 entries.
An exhibit of the finalists opens Friday.
