Police say a Grand Junction man has been arrested in the 1994 beating death of a Boulder man after investigators matched evidence from the crime scene with information in a national crime database.
Boulder police say 42-year-old David John Trujillo was arrested Monday on second-degree murder charges in the death of David Eugene "Gene" Cox. Trujillo was being held in the Boulder County jail on $500,000 bond.
The 55-year-old Cox was found dead in his home Jan. 4, 1994. Authorities say he was battered on the head with a cast-iron kettle. The Boulder Police Department reopened the case in 2004 after new technology turned up fingerprints on items in the victim's home.
