Coloradans win national awards from Forest Service

Three Coloradans have won national-level U.S. Forest Service awards for wilderness stewardship.

Steve Smith is assistant regional director of The Wilderness Society. He received a Bob Marshall Award for Individual Champion of Wilderness Stewardship. Smith recently helped negotiate a water protection agreement inthe Dominguez Canyon Wilderness.

John Anarella, wilderness program manager on the Routt National Forest, received an Aldo Leopold Award for Overall Wilderness Stewardship Program. And San Juan National Forest supervisor Mark
Stiles won a Line Officer Wilderness Leadership Award.

The awards were announced in October.
