Unusually cold temperatures are gripping parts of the Sunshine state and they're expected to last through the weekend.

Farmers in central and southern Florida have been scrambling to save their crops by spraying them with protective layers of ice and covering them in plastic.

Vacationing Ohio students Tara McCourry and Stephen McFarren thought this would be a good time of year to get away from the cold and head for Florida. But they were wrong.

McCourry says, "Florida is not supposed to be cold like this."

There's also a hard freeze warning for most of Mississippi and Alabama.
