Cold air constricts blood vessels increasing chance of heart attacks

Winter is prime time for having a heart attack. One potential cause? Shoveling snow or other strenuous activity done out in the icy cold air.
Experts at Weill Cornell Medical Center say cold air causes blood vessels to constrict because the body is trying to hold onto heat. That constriction can raise blood pressure and reduce oxygen flow to the heart.
Any activity that strains the heart in cold weather could trigger a heart attack in some people.
