A U.S. official says Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton plans to make a personal appeal to the Palestinian president and Israeli prime minister as part of President Barack Obama's Mideast peace push.
The official says she'll travel to the United Arab Emirates to meet with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and from there will stop in Israel to hold talks with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. She'll be joined by the Obama administration's special Mideast peace envoy, George Mitchell, as the two work to restart the stalled peace process.
The spokesman says her weekend talks reflect "the administration's commitment - and her personal commitment - to work through the challenges" the administration faces in negotiating Mideast peace. The trip was announced as Clinton wrapped up a three-day visit to Pakistan.
