PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Tim Clark of South Africa sure picked a big tournament for his first PGA Tour victory.
Clark finished off a record 36-hole comeback at the TPC Sawgrass with a 5-under 67 on Sunday to rally from seven shots behind on the weekend and win The Players Championship over hard-luck Robert Allenby of Australia.
Clark played the final 26 holes without a bogey, surging into the lead with four straight birdies around the turn. Allenby watched in frustration as an 18-foot eagle putt on the 16th and
12-foot birdie putt on the 17th stopped just short of going in. He shot a 70 to finish one shot behind.
Tiger Woods still managed to create a big buzz Sunday. He withdrew on the seventh hole, citing pain in his neck that he says has been bothering him since before the Masters.
