Pueblo City Schools plans to slowly start outsourcing its custodial services. The school district is in the process of selecting a private contractor to fill five open custodian jobs, specifically to clean schools at night. Eventually as current night janitors retire or resign, the district says those jobs will also be taken over by a private contractor..

Right now Pueblo City Schools has more than a hundred custodians and a district spokesperson says their jobs are not in jeopardy. "We met with those individuals this afternoon in meetings and assured them that their jobs are not in danger whatsoever, that this addresses current openings," said Scott Jones, spokesperson for Pueblo City Schools.

Jones says this decision was made to improve the district's efficiency in operations.

There's no timeline yet on when these changes will begin.
