Church goers get unwelcome surprise for Easter Service

Colorado Springs Police investigators are gathering evidence and questioning a suspect involved in an early morning burglary at the Lighthouse Baptist Church on the 4200 block of Hopeful Drive.

Police began receiving calls at around 4 a.m. Easter Sunday morning when a man was seen acting suspiciously and lurking around the neighborhood. Officers were dispatched to the area and during their patrol noticed a window broken out at the Lighthouse Baptist Church.

As the officers continued to search the area they found what was described as a trail of blood that led them to the suspect who was covered in cuts and scrapes. The suspect is described only as a 17 year old male, who was taken to a local hospital for treatment then taken into custody. He has been charged with second degree burglary and criminal mischief.

Police went on to detail that they found a second window broken out as well. It appears that the suspect broke one window with a rock to break in and a second window in an attempt to escape.

Nothing has been reported to have been stolen as the suspect was caught at the scene. The extent of any other damages has yet to be released as police continue to investigate and question the suspect. The name of the suspect is being witheld because he is a minor.
