Christians celebrate Palm Sunday

Today is the Sunday before Easter meaning it's the day Christians celebrate Palm Sunday.

It symbolizes Jesus' entry into Jerusalem a week before his resurrection.

Churches all over our area held special services this morning to commemorate the event.

They say it's important to celebrate because it's the culmination of Jesus' life.

"Jesus had no sin, yet he died as a sacrifice to his father, our father, God, so that we may have eternal life," said Dave Klingbeil, caretaker at First Baptist Church.

In ancient times, palm leaves symbolized goodness and victory, so some churches still pass them out to their members on Palm Sunday.
