There's new information about the popular cholesterol-lowering drugs called statins out of the American College of Chest Physicians annual meeting. One study finds taking Statins significantly lowers the risk for blood clots among patients with atherosclerosis, or hardened arteries.

However, a second study finds statins may have a negative effect on patients with diastolic heart failure, a condition where the chambers of the heart are too stiff to properly fill with blood.

Both study authors suggest patients talk to their doctor about the risks and benefits of the drugs.
