DENVER (AP) - A Chicago developer was sentenced to 6 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to trying to hire a hit man to kill a business associate who sued him.

The U.S. District Attorney's office says 72-year-old Brooks Kellogg was also fined $100,000 Thursday for his conviction of traveling in interstate commerce in commission of murder-for-hire. Kellogg pleaded guilty in April.

Prosecutors say Kellogg flew to Denver International Airport in October 2010 and paid $2,000 to an undercover agent Kellogg believed was a hit man. Authorities say Kellogg had previously paid an additional $6,000 for the hit.

Prosecutors say Kellogg was trying to arrange the murder of a Florida man who sued Kellogg for $2.5 million.
