Open space parks like Palmer Park and Cheyenne Canyon remain closed Tuesday despite the sun coming out Tuesday. Water levels are dropping, but the safety concerns remain.
Top to bottom in Cheyenne Canyon it is not safe. There are waterfalls at spots they have never been before. At other places water is coming out of the hillside, not down it. The result is rock slides, trail erosion and many spots where the road has given way leaving dangerous drops. "Our concern is actually debris is falling. We have trees that all of the sediment and such has been removed so we have trees toppling over. We've seen a lot of large boulders coming down off the side of our mountain area," said Parks Director, Karen Palus.
Last week parks leaders estimated damage at around $2 million city wide. Only rain kept coming and now the cost of damage is likely closer to $4million.
