Tri-Union Seafoods recalls approximately 1100 cans of Chicken of the Sea brand white tuna in 12-ounce cans. Shipments were made to Colorado, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Utah, Pennsylvania, New York, Maine, Indiana, California and Oregon.
Rebecca Howe, a spokeswoman working for a California-based PR firm representing Tri-Union Seafoods, says that one warehouse in Aurora, Colorado received a shipment of the recalled tuna. That warehouse distributes to all Kroger chains, including King Soopers, Loaf 'N Jug and City Market, in Colorado.
Ms. Howe adds that cans are being recalled due to a production error affecting seal quality. The faulty seals were discovered in a recent Quality Control audit.
Consumers who purchased the product between February and May are encouraged to return the product. Cans with the UPC code 4800000262, "Best By Date 2/10/2014," and product code 7OA1E ASWAB, 7OA2E ASWAB, 7OA3E ASWAB, 7OA4E ASWAB, 7OA5E ASWAB, 7OAEE ASWAB or 7OAFE ASWAB are asked to call 1-877-843-6376 for return information and a full refund.
No other Chicken of the Sea product is involved by this voluntary recall.
As of now, no one has been reported to fall ill from the tuna.
