In observance with Memorial Day, a ceremony honoring the Buffalo Soldiers was held Monday at Evergreen Cemetery.
Buffalo Soldiers were African American regiments commanded by white officers. They formed in the 1860's.
The service started with soldiers marching in from the chapel and included a singing of "Amazing Grace" and the playing of Taps.
Not only was the ceremony about honoring the soldiers, it is also a way for people to learn more about their service.
"It honors people that volunteered, regardless of what their race is, who supported and defended our country,"
says Col. Mitch Bart, a Commander with the 10th US Cavalry Buffalo Soldiers.
A butterfly and dove release was held after the ceremony.
