Brian Sumpter of Pueblo Centennial High School is the latest Loaf ‘n Jug Aquafina Athlete of the Week.
Brian has more hops than your average high school kid. The 18-year-old senior is a hurdler on the Bulldogs track team and he is currently ranked in the state's top five for the 110 and 300 meter hurdles. He says it's his goal to take first place at the Colorado State Track and Field Meet in May.
Also, he's only a half second off his school record in the 300. Not bad for a guy who showed up to practice a few years ago with an open mind.
"Truthfully, I was a freshman on the track team and my coach was like, does anyone want to try hurdles?" said Brian. "Nobody seemed interested so he said, you're kind of tall. Why don't you try hurdles? I was like, what's the worst that could happen?"
Brian is also an eagle scout and enjoys camping and skiing. He plans on attending CSU-Fort Collins in the fall where he wants to major in sports medicine.
