New Census data shows that Longmont has seen one of the largest increases in the number of foreign-born residents in Colorado during the last decade.

The recently released figures from the American Community Survey shows that Longmont's foreign-born population increased from 10.6 percent in 2000 to 17.1 percent last year.

The Boulder Daily Camera reports Sunday that the increase in the foreign-born population in Longmont is the largest in Colorado among cities with more than 65,000 residents.

The data does not specify the countries where the immigrants are coming from but Longmont business leaders say they have seen a spike in the number of stores and services catering to Latinos.
