It's that time of year again to go rummaging through your closet and pull out your best red.
February is heart month and Friday, February 4, 2011 is the National Wear Red Day. Join the masses that will choose to wear red and show your support for battling heart disease.
Leslie McGinn of the American Heart Association says they encourage women to "take five to tell five. So, take five minutes to tell their five girlfriends, and have their five girlfriends tell five more of their girlfriends and get the word out that heart disease is preventable."
Here are some fast facts about heart disease from the American Heart Association:
1. Since 1918, cardiovascular disease has been the number one killer in the United States.
2. It is the number one killer of women twenty and older.
3. One in three women die each year from cardiovascular disease.
4. Also, an average of fifteen years of life is lost due to heart attack.
The American Heart Association also kicks-off the celebration with a "Martinis and Manicures" party at the downtown Antler's Hilton Hotel on Friday, February 4, 2011. The event is open to the public and runs from 5 - 7 p.m., tickets cost $25, and there will be appetizers and desserts available. An added bonus - CSFD will be signing their 2011 calendars.
Tomorrow, support the cause by wearing your red and drop by the Antler's Hotel for some evening fun.
