The Colorado Department of Transportation will ask for emergency funding to tackle flash flood problems along Highway 24 near Manitou Springs according to spokesman Bob Wilson.
Wilson said they want to use the emergency funding to expand the current flood mitigation project that is going on right now.
Wilson also said the rain has slowed down the project somewhat but CDOT plan to complete the project before the end of the season.
Wilson did not have an estimate on the amount of emergency funding CDOT will ask for, but they would like to install a bigger culvert and larger pipes to divert flash flood water underneath Highway 24.
