St. Cloud, Minn. - The St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (5-11-2, 3-8-1 WCHA) lost a 5-2 decision to Colorado College (10-7-1, 7-5-0 WCHA) at the National Hockey Center in St. Cloud on Saturday.
Colorado College tied the game at 10:19 of the first period with a goal by Gabe Guentzel, which included assists from Joe Marciano and William Rapuzzi. The Tigers grabbed the lead at 2-1 with a goal by Rapuzzi, as Guentzel had the lone assist on the play. After the second CC goal, the Huskies switched goalies and replaced game starter Dan Dunn with sophomore Mike Lee.
To complete the first period, Tyler Johnson scored the eventual game winner at 16:59 with assists from Rylan Schwartz and Archie Skalbeck. The goal was scored as CC had an extra attacker on ice due to a delayed penalty call.
In the second period, CC extended its lead to 4-1 with a goal by Stephen Schultz at the 2:21 mark as Rapuzzi and Schwartz notched the assists on the play. In the third period, Johnson ended the CC scoring drive with the Tigers' fifth goal of the game at 7:17. Ryan Lowery posted the lone assist on the score.
In the contest, SCSU outshot the Tigers 31-28. The Huskies were 1-of-3 on the power play and CC was 1-of-7 on the advantage. SCSU hit a season game-high with 13 penalties for 45 minutes in the contest. In the nets, Howe earned the victory with 29 saves to his credit for CC. Dunn made two saves in 10:44 minutes of play, while Lee was the goalie of record with 21 saves in 49:11 minutes of play during the game.
