KIOWA, Colo. (AP) - The Colorado Bureau of Investigation is trying to find out why Elbert County Sheriff Shayne Heap was paid more than $12,000 for unused vacation time he saved up during his years of work in the department.
According to the Denver Post, the amount appears to be more than four times a limit set by county policy.
State investigators met with a county commissioner last week to discuss the payment. CBI assistant director Steve Johnson says there will be a thorough probe into whether crimes were committed.
Heap did not return a phone call seeking comment.
