The name Ed McCaffrey is synonymous with Denver Bronco football. Unheralded and undrafted out of Stanford, McCaffrey went on to capture the hearts of Bronco fans across the nation by helping lead Denver to back to back Super Bowl Championships in the late 90s. "It was the most fun football experience of my lifetime." says McCaffrey, "I'll never forget it. I'm just so happy that I got to be a part of it."
After retiring in 2004, Ed took an old mentors advice for life after the gridiron. "As Coach (Mike) Shanahan used to say, one you retire you can do two things... you can either sell cars or coach!" laughs McCaffrey, "So in the summers I'm pretty much a camp director. I still stay close to football and do all kinds of camps for kids of all abilities." These days Ed has traded in the helmet and pads for a visor and whistle. He coaches camps all over Colorado. For him it's a way to stay close to the game he loves so much. "Coaching is very fulfilling for me." he says, "Being able to teach what I know to kids really helps. Watching them smile when they make a catch or a tackle or a block. As a father I love to do it for my sons and as a camp director I love doing it for ever kids that plays with heart and loves the game of football."
As for the future, Ed says he's pretty darn happy right where he's at in Colorado, the state that has adopted him as its own. "This is our home. My wife Lisa and I have 4 boys. 3 of them were born here, and all 4 of them have basically grown up here their whole lives." he says, "We love Colorado. It's a beautiful place to live so we're not going anywhere."
Ed McCaffrey is bringing his football camp to Colorado Springs in just a few weeks. The camp runs July 20th through the 23rd at Garry Berry Stadium. CLICK HERE for more information on how you can sign up your child for camp.
