The man accused of trapping and killing cats, at a mobile home park in Colorado Springs, pled guilty and was sentenced while in court this afternoon.
David Leisge pled guilty to felony aggravated animal cruelty and criminal mischief. He was sentenced to 3 years probation, 100 hours of community service, and ordered to pay $75 in restitution to one of the victims. Leisge admitted to News First 5 that he killed up to half a dozen cats in the La Cresta Estates neighborhood. He says he was under pressure from tenants to alleviate a major problem with stray cats.
Supporters of Leisge packed the courtroom Monday. Three of them spoke out in defense of Leisgie, pointing to his military service as a Vietnam Veteran and that he was following orders from his employers.
One of the victims, whose cat "Fluffy" was killed by Leisge, spoke out against him in court. Afterwards she told News First 5 that she was unhappy with the outcome, and had wished Leisge would have to serve time in jail for the hardship she says he caused her family.
We'll have more on this story coming up on News First 5 at 5 and 6 p.m..
