CarGo day to day due to right ankle sprain

DETROIT -- Rockies right fielder Carlos Gonzalez is having a hard time staying healthy.

His latest injury came in the fifth inning of Friday night's 4-2 loss to Detroit. Gonzalez injured his right ankle while making a sliding catch in right-field foul territory at Comerica Park.

"It was one of the better plays I've seen in a while," Colorado manager Walt Weiss said. "He had a beat on that ball from the time it took off. He's a great outfielder. Once he had a beat on that ball, he wasn't going to stop."

But, in the process, he reaggravated his right ankle, which he sprained last Saturday. That injury caused him to miss two starts. Now, he's listed as day to day.

"The ankle doesn't look great," Weiss said. "We'll see how he shows up tomorrow."

The catch in the corner put an end to Detroit's three-run fifth inning, but it might temporarily keep Gonzalez off the field.

Brandon Barnes replaced Gonzalez in right field.

Gonzalez, a two-time All-Star, missed a majority of last season's second half and has already been out for a sizeable portion of this year because of a cell tumor on his left index finger that had to be removed.

"I talked to him earlier about the stuff he's had to fight through," Weiss said of Gonzalez's injury woes. "He's been nicked up. He hasn't been healthy in a really long time. It's been tough on him."

To add depth, the Rockies called up Sky Sox outfielder Jason Pridie, and designated Pedro Hernandez for assignment
