Car crash causes power outage

Early Sunday morning, at around 1 a.m., the Colorado Springs Police dispatch was notified of a traffic crash on Nevada Avenue at Cheyenne Road which involved a power outage.

The investigation revealed that a vehicle was speeding, going southbound, on Nevada Ave when the driver lost control and struck a major pole located on the west curdline of Nevada Ave. The pole was sheared off at the base, cutting power to a one block area.

The driver and three passengers were transported to Memorial Central and treated for minor injuries. The driver, identified as Chris M. Zazo, then was prosessed for possible DUI, and will also be cited for reckless driving.

Ciy Utilities will be replacing the power pole which will take approximately eight hours starting at 6:00am. During this time only one lane of southbound Nevada will be open from St. Elmo to Cheyenne Rd.
