Students at Canon City High School are remembering a fellow classmate who died in a car wreck over the weekend. Samantha Gaunt, 17, was killed when her car crashed into a tree in Penrose Sunday morning. Gaunt was a well respected softball player and a member of the National Honor Society.

"Sammy Jo was the bubbly giddy happy one all the time, who was just always there--you never expected Sammy to be gone," said her teammate Kellsey Johnson. "I still can't picture her gone," she added.

"She helped me through a lot this season. I think a couple of times she told me word for word 'Don't even think about quitting I'll kick your butt,' she was a great person," Kaitlin Brownlee, another teammate.

Funeral arrangements are being planned for Friday afternoon.

Her teammates will share more of their memories tonight on News First 5 at 6 p.m.
