Businesses could weigh in on Colo. bills

DENVER (AP) - It's a perennial gripe about Colorado lawmakers - that they regulate businesses without realizing how much red tape they're creating.
That could change under a proposal to give industries a chance to weigh in on legislation before it's approved in Colorado. The plan has broad support so far from both parties in the Capitol. Everyone seems to like the idea in the business community, too.
What's unclear is whether "business fiscal impact statements" would really make a difference in changing regulations or cutting red tape.
Similar requirements have been added to legislative bodies from California to Massachusetts. In Colorado, the idea was prompted by Democratic Gov. John Hickenlooper, a
restaurant-owner-turned-politician who has said that cutting red tape is a top priority to revive the economy.
