Bus vs truck accident leaves 2 seriously injured

The Colorado State Patrol is currently investigating a serious injury crash that occurred on Monday night, in Huefano County. The crash happened in the southbound lanes of I-25, about six miles north of Walsenburg.

There was a bus, driven by 53 year-old Gabriel Garcia of Altadena, CA, that was traveling south on I-25, and in the right lane there was a Ford Pick-up that was being driven by 23 year-old Emmet Bauer of Ft Carson. The pick-up attempted to turn northbound in the southbound lanes of I-25, when it traveled into the path of the southbound bus. The bus then collided with pick-up truck, and spun off the roadway coming to a rest in the median. The bus came to a controlled stop in the right lane of the highway.

Seven of the bus occupants were transported by ambulance to Spanish Peaks hospital in Walsenburg. All seven occupants were treated for minor injuries and later released.

There was one passenger in the Ford. He was identified as 21-year-old Benjamin Dowling of Ft Carson. Both Mr. Dowling and Mr. Bauer suffered serious injuries in the crash and were transported from the scene by ambulance.
