ASPEN, Colo. (AP) - Authorities say a tow truck crashed into a public bus near Aspen, sending at least 22 people to the hospital. The crash happened Friday on the road between Aspen and Snowmass Village.

The total number of people taken to the hospital wasn't immediately clear. Pitkin County sheriff's spokesman Alex Burchetta said nine people suffered moderate injuries, such as broken bones and laceration. He said another 36 were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The Colorado State Patrol said only 22 ended up going to the hospital. The flatbed tow truck allegedly ran a red light, hitting the bus. The tow truck driver has been cited for careless driving causing injury.

Burchetta said authorities had gotten reports of snow stacking up in the hoods of traffic lights, obscuring the signals, in the area before the accident.
