A small wildfire near the southern Colorado community of Beulah was fully contained Sunday, less than 24 hours after it was first reported.
The Burch Fire, burning around three miles southwest of Beulah, was determined to be 100 percent contained Sunday morning, according to the U.S. Forest Service. The fire burned roughly an acre on Pike and San Isabel National Forest land. Smoke from the fire was visible for miles Saturday afternoon and evening. A Type 1 helicopter dropped water on the fire, using nearby Lake Isabel as its water source. State Highway 165 was briefly closed about 12 miles north of Rye to facilitate access by firefighting resources.
No structures were ever threatened by the fire, which was named for the old Burch Campground nearby.
