ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) - John Elway turned his attention to the SEC after using his first three picks on Big Ten players, choosing LSU linebacker Lamin Barrow in the fifth round of the NFL draft Saturday.
Barrow mostly played weakside linebacker in college but his versatility will allow him to compete with Nate Irving for the middle linebacker job in Denver.
Barrow was the Broncos' first pick of the day because they traded their fourth-rounder (131st overall) to Chicago along with a seventh-rounder (246) for a pair of fifth-round selections, one this year and one next.
The Broncos used the 156th overall selection on Barrow, a 6-foot-1, 237-pounder who helped the Tigers bottle up Johnny Manziel in a 24-10 win over Texas A&M in November.
