ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) - The Denver Broncos infused some much-needed youth into their defensive backfield. They still have a gaping hole on the defensive line.
The Broncos selected AP All-America safety Quinton Carter of Oklahoma in the fourth round Saturday, one day after grabbing safety Rahim Moore of UCLA in the second round.
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) - The Denver Broncos have traded up to take Portland State tight end Julius Thomas in the fourth round Saturday.
The Broncos surrendered fifth- and sixth-round picks to the Green Bay Packers to move up and grab Thomas. Denver also received a seventh-rounder.
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) - The Denver Broncos took another linebacker in the draft, selecting Mike Mohamed of California in the sixth round Saturday.
The 6-foot-2, 238-pound Mohamed was rated eighth among inside linebackers in Mel Kiper Jr.'s 2011 Draft Report, ahead of North Carolina State's Nate Irving, who was selected by the team in the third round.
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) - The Denver Broncos picked up another tight end in the draft, taking Virgil Green of Nevada in the seventh round Saturday.
Initially a wide receiver, Green added 30 pounds and developed into an elite tight end. He became the favorite target of quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who went in the second round to the
San Francisco 49ers. Green caught 72 passes for 939 yards and 11 touchdowns last season for the Wolfpack.
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) - With their last pick of the NFL draft Saturday, the Denver Broncos addressed their needs on the defensive front by taking Jeremy Beal of Oklahoma.
Beal, a defensive end, had 29 career sacks, a total that's second in Sooners history. He also finished with 224 career tackles.
The Broncos used six of their nine picks on defense, but the 6-foot-3, 267-pound Beal was the first to shore up a defensive line that contributed to the team's struggles against the run.
