Boys learn to become men at upcoming conference

The choices we make have long-term meaning.  That's the idea behind the Be Your Own Man Conference at Colorado State University-Pueblo, from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 24.

Boys in grades 5-9 will learn how to become strong, successful, and respected young men through education about the dangers and consequences of making poor choices and through tools to help individuals dream and plan for the future.

A $5 registration fee covers all conference sessions and activities, a breakfast, snack, full lunch, and conference t-shirt.

Participants will explore career options in industries ranging from machining and the sciences to automotive, media, health, engineering, and computer information systems. They also will meet men who have overcome barriers such as poverty, violence, addictions, family problems, and identity issues to obtain successful personal and professional lives. Youth will learn how education empowered the men to create better lives for themselves and their families.

Among the session topics will be verbal judo, gangs, drugs/alcohol, internet safety, and leadership.  The conference will take place in the CSU-Psychology Building.
